About Us

Herald Journal Printing is owned by the parent company Herald Journal Publishing, which is owned by Chris Schultz and Dale Kovar.

Chris has a degree in public administration and leads the company’s sales and marketing efforts. He has worked in the newspaper field about 15 years.

Dale has worked for newspapers his entire adult life. He has been in Winsted more than 20 years. His role is primarily an editorial and production focus.

Chris and Dale purchased what was Winsted Publishing, the parent company of then Howard Lake-Waverly Herald and the Winsted-Lester Prairie Journal, in December 2001 from Bill Ramige, renaming it Herald Journal Publishing.

The company has been in a steady growth pattern since. In Spring 2002 Herald Journal added a sign and graphics department, and purchased Wayne’s Quality Printing of Howard Lake, bringing full-service commercial printing inhouse.

The Herald Journal newspaper is a 3,000-plus weekly covering the communities of Howard Lake, Lester Prairie, Mayer, Montrose, New Germany, Waverly, and Winsted.

In July 2005, Herald Journal acquired the neighboring Dassel-Cokato Enterprise Dispatch, also about 3,000 in circulation. September 2006 the Delano Herald Journal was started. Teamed with our three newspapers is the Herald Journal Shopper.
